Vito(Don Corleone) The Dogfather

The Don is the newest addition to our family. He goes by many names including, The Don and The Dogfather, but primarily Vito. Vito became a part of our family just 3 days ago! Before deciding that we wanted a Cane Corso, our family did some research on the breed. To see what really won us over, check out this video:

Vito is a purebred AKC registered Cane Corso, pronounced “KAH-Neh KOR-Soh.” A Cane Corso is also known as an Italian Mastiff which “belongs to a subcategory of working breeds called mollosus dogs.” https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/cane-corso/

The Cane Corso “was created to hunt big game and guard property,” as he is from Roman wardog descent, but Vito will just be our family dog. We have learned that Cane Corso’s have very dominate personalities and need to be put in their place at a young age in order to be well behaved. They must know that their owner’s are the boss. While this characteristic can be troublesome if not managed well, it also makes for an exceptional family guard dog. http://www.vetstreet.com/dogs/cane-corso#personality

According to the American Kennel Club, Vito is going to be massive. He should grow to be anywhere from 100 to 135 pounds, standing at up to 28 inches tall. Vito is already 17 pounds and he is only 9 weeks. With Cane Corso’s being so large, the hardest things to tackle with Vito would be his dominate personality. But lucky for us, Vito already seems to understand that he isn’t the boss, which makes training him much easier.
